Apply for an open preceptor placement

The form takes about ten minutes and costs nothing. It tells a coordinator what you hold, where you practice, which population you could teach and how many hours you can give, which is everything needed to say what is open. Nothing reaches a program until you accept a student.

Six things to check first

  • Your license is active, with no restriction, probation or pending action against it.
  • Your certification covers the population you would teach and is not within 90 days of lapsing.
  • At least two years have passed since you certified in that population.
  • Your clinic or your video panel sees the kinds of visit the course asks for.
  • You can give a student around eight hours a week for a term, or four for a half-opening.
  • Somebody at your practice will sign an affiliation agreement, or one is already in place.

If one of them fails, send the form anyway and name it. Some gaps close with a document and some only with time, and a coordinator would rather tell you which than leave you guessing.

What sending this does not commit you to

It does not tie you to a student, a rate, a program or a start date. Every one of those is settled when a card arrives, and any card can be turned down. You can restrict yourself to video only, cap yourself at one student at a time, block out weeks of the year, or leave the list altogether whenever you want.
